We are 6 weeks away from the Festival of New Trumpet Music: Flexus 2016, opening on September 19 and 20 at Threes Brewing and closing on Sunday September 25 with our concert honoring John McNeil with FONT Music’s Award of Recognition. The September 25 show features McNeil with his ensemble, as well as Jeff Beal and Laurie Frink Career Grant winner Tony Glausi. A panel preceding the show will discuss Laurie Frink, including Keyon Harrold, Nadje Noordhuis, Mike Rodriguez, and Dave Ballou.
Other highlights:
- Wadada Leo Smith and Taylor Ho Bynum share a night with their large ensembles.
- Marquis Hill reprises Signatures in Brass, with new music thanks to our Roy Campbell, Jr. commissioning fund, and this year performing at JALC’s Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, the first collaboration between FONT Music and JALC.
- Two nights of performances by Visionaries include trumpeters Nadje Noordhuis, Kenny Warren, Ralph Alessi, Aaron Shragge, Eli Asher, and Shane Endsley.
- Explorations in New Music features the Brooklyn Brass Quintet and The Practical Trumpet Society on September 23.
