Amy Horvey a choisi un triple chemin pour son développement en tant que trompettiste: comme interprète de musique créative, comme trompettiste d’orchestre et comme spécialiste de la trompette baroque. Elle présente à FONTMusic Canada deux œuvres nouvelles, d’une beauté renversante, pour lesquelles elle collabore avec le collectif de musique de chambre anticonformiste Warhol Dervish, une collection visionnaire de HIPsters de la musique ancienne, spécialistes de musique contemporaine, romantiques ardents, rockstars du dimanche et yogis.

Amy joue régulièrement avec l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. Elle a participé à de nombreux festivals de renommée, dont le Festival Montréal Baroque, le Festival of New Trumpet (FONT) Music de New York, l’Académie du Festival de Lucerne et le Festival international de la musique de chambre d’Ottawa. Elle a présenté des programmes de nouvelle musique pour trompette lors de tournées au Canada et en Italie, et s’est produite comme soliste au sein de l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal et de l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts. Amy a sorti trois albums acclamés par la critique : Interview, Catchment, et Mille Bayous. Amy Horvey détient un doctorat en interprétation, option trompette, de l’École de musique Schulich de l’Université McGill.

Fondé en 2007 et basé à Montréal, le Warhol Dervish est un collectif de musique de chambre hétérodoxe, réunissant quelques-uns des musiciens les plus intéressants et les plus créatifs au Canada, cherchant à actualiser l’expérience du concert de musique de chambre en le resituant dans le contexte du 21e siècle. Les membres du Warhol Dervish puisent leur inspiration et leur expérience professionnelle en travaillant avec des artistes et des ensembles aussi variés que l’Ensemble Kore, Arion, Patrick Watson, Lhasa de Sela, Richard Reed Parry, Socalled, Suuns, Bradyworks, La La La Human Steps, Claude Lamothe, l’Ensemble Caprice, la SMCQ, l’OSM, etc.

Amy Horvey has chosen a three-fold path in her development as a trumpeter: as a performer of creative music, as an orchestral trumpeter, and as a specialist in the Baroque trumpet. In her program for FONTMusic Canada, she collaborates with the unorthodox chamber music collective Warhol Dervish, a visionary collection of of early-music HIPsters, new music specialists, ardent romantics, rockstar wannabes, and yogis, with two brand-new works of compelling beauty.

Amy regularly performs with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and has appeared at many major festivals including the Montreal Baroque Festival, Festival of New Trumpet (FONT) Music New York, Lucerne Festival Academy, and Ottawa Chamber Music Festival. She has toured Canada and Italy with programs of new music for trumpet, and appeared as a soloist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Amy has released three albums to widespread critical acclaim: Interview, Catchment, and Mille Bayous. Amy Horvey holds a Doctorate in Trumpet Performance from The Schulich School of Music of McGill University.

La trompettiste et compositrice Nicole Rampersaud est fréquemment recherchée pour sa voix originale et versatile dans les scènes du jazz et des musiques improvisées; elle est très demandée au Canada et aux Etats-Unis pour sa performance. Parmi ses anciens et actuels collaborateurs voici une liste d’artistes de renomée: Anthony Braxton, Evan Parker, Rakalam Bob Moses, Django Bates, Marilyn Lerner, Joe Morris et Jean Martin. Elle a aussi joué dans les lieux les plus présitigieux d’ Amérique du Nord tels que Lincoln Center de New York, Berklee Performance Center de Boston et Massey Hall à Toronto.

Nicole a reçu de nombreuses bourses du Conseil des Arts du Canada, du Conseil des Arts d’ Ontario, notemment pour réaliser les albums Shaw/Rampersaud Project (groupe avec le saxophonist Evan Shaw qu’ elle co-dirige) avec son trio d’ improvisation, cRL. Elle s’ est aussi investit dans la promotion de la musique improvisée à Toronto, siégant au conseil d’administration de l’ Association des Musiciens Improvisateurs, à la fois qu’ en programmant la série Leftover Daylight.

Trumpet Player and Composer, Nicole Rampersaud is frequently sought after for her original and versatile voice in the jazz and improvised music scenes, and is an in demand performer in cities across Canada and the United States. Past and current collaborators read like a who’s who of today’s leading artists: Anthony Braxton, Evan Parker, Rakalam Bob Moses, Django Bates, Marilyn Lerner, Joe Morris and Jean Martin, to name a few. She has also performed in some of the most prestigious venues in North America including: New York’s Lincoln Center, Berklee Performance Center in Boston, and Massey Hall in Toronto.

Nicole has been the recipient of multiple grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Ontario Arts Council, most notably to record and release albums with the Shaw/Rampersaud Project (a group she co-leads with Alto Sax Player, Evan Shaw), and with the improvising trio, cRL. She has also worked actively to promote the improvised music community in Toronto, sitting on the Board of Directors for the Association of Improvising Musicians, Toronto, and co-curating the long running Leftover Daylight Series.

Nicole’s Quintet was invited to perform a set of new compositions at the Festival of New Trumpet Music, where she was also a part of the New York premiere of Anthony Braxton’s Composition #103 for Seven Choreographed and Costumed Trumpets, with Mr. Braxton conducting. She has since performed the piece with Mr. Braxton at the Ars Nova Workshop in Philadelphia. Nicole also performed with Braxton as a member of the AIMToronto Orchestra at the Guelph Jazz Festival. The performance was documented and released on Spool Records.

Born and raised in Toronto, Nicole holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto’s Jazz Performance Program. Upon graduating from the University, Nicole was offered a scholarship to continue her studies at the New England Conservatory, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies. While at the Conservatory, Nicole studied with Danilo Perez, John McNeil, Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Morris, Herb Pomeroy, Joe Maneri, and Bob Moses. She also studied composition with Michael Gandolfi and Ken Schaphorst.

Today, Nicole continues to maintain an active performance schedule as both a sideperson and bandleader in a wide variety of groups across Canada. Upcoming projects and events include performing at the first edition of the Festival of New Trumpet Music Canada, as well as a vinyl release of solo trumpet compositions.
